About Me

Kate Seaman started taking photographs in 2009, and her passion for visuals has only grown since then.

She was born in January 1999 in New York City and studied Photojournalism at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

Her sister is a fine art painter and her mother is a photographer as well. Growing up, the two of them taught her see the need for art and made her appreciate the art world. She started her photography career at The New School in 2009. After two semesters, she ran out of photo-based classes in the school, and a year later, she went to the International Center of Photography. After five years at ICP, she graduated from the Imagemakers program. She moved to Missouri in 2017 and completed a degree in Photojournalism in May 2021.

She has worked with the Columbia Missourian as a photographer and as a photo editor at Sports Illustrated, Getty Images, NCAA Photos and Bloomberg News.

Her work focuses on the people of the area in addition to the surrounding region's nature and beauty. One of the things Kate looks for in her subjects is passion. She shares stories of people who are passionate about their beliefs, jobs, or life in general. She believes that everyone has a story to tell and that she has an obligation to take the utmost care in telling their story.

In recent years, Kate has worked on the editing side of photography. She realized how important it is to work with visual and creative people positively, the importance of moving quickly to get the story to viewers and the need for an advocate for visuals. She enjoys helping photographers grow and make visuals relevant and impactful to viewers. Her editing philosophy is based on Bob Lynn’s approach to editing, as detailed in his book, Vision, Courage & Heart.

She works in both film and digital mediums. She uses a Nikon D810, a Canon AE-1, and a Yashica Mat 124 G.
